why pasqueflower: Lessons from the earth
In the Black Hills of South Dakota, the return of the humble Prairie Pasque (Lakota: hoksi’ cekpa) means one thing: Winter is almost over. You made it through the trials of the cold wind and snow, and the warmth and energetic burst of Spring is just around the corner.
The Pasqueflower’s pale purple petals stretching through the snow are a sign of hope and renewal, and also one of resiliency. We admire the strength of this beautiful flower and its ability to survive despite harsh odds because it reminds us of our own capacity to do what we perceive as hard, possibly impossible.
Pasqueflower Consulting serves organizations that understand the time has come for them to step up and do hard work. The Climate Crisis is the single largest threat to human rights that we have ever seen. As we continue to understand this threat, the growing consensus is the role of a business in a community needs to change. Businesses are now expected to show a transparent, authentic commitment to the communities that keep them operating and the environment that supports them.
This is done by focusing on the intersectional triple-bottom-line model of sustainability. When an organization understands that the balance of financial stability, social equity, and environmental responsibility is directly connected to its longevity and success, it can truly thrive. Pasqueflower Consulting has a proven track record of working with businesses to understand the benefits of this balance and looks forward to spreading that message.
Garrett Chappell - Founder
Garrett (he/they) learned the importance of environmental care growing up in the sacred land of the Black Hills of South Dakota. It was among those precious trees and streams that he learned the simultaneous fragility and resiliency of nature and our mutual need for its protection and survival.
After a marketing and graphic design career, Garrett pivoted to a self-taught path as a sustainability coordinator in 2019. Since then, he has gone on to develop his own path in multiple companies, working with orginizations with minimal experience in their sustainability journeys. His work has saved companies tens of thousands of dollars in operating costs, added millions in revenue, strengthened public images and brands, and established a core need for why environmental impact must be considered from a business perspective.
His work has been recognized with multiple awards and high-level certifications with The Colorado Green Business Network, and he has been listed as an honoree on multiple 40 under 40 lists within Colorado. Garrett has also been an invited speaker at events held by the University of Colorado Boulder, B-Civic, Denver Climate Con, and the United Nations Federal Credit Union.
